There is a strange distance between making a decision and living with its consequences.

In a game like Go, every move can be understood as strategy: attack, defense, territory, sacrifice. But what happens if the surface carrying those decisions is no longer neutral?

The Collapsing Chessboard turns the board into a fragile membrane. As stones are placed and their liberties change, different levels of tension are applied to the surface. The players can continue thinking about strategy and victory while the board beneath them becomes increasingly unstable.

Eventually, it collapses before the game can finish.

The work is not about representing one particular war. It is about the distance between those who make the moves and those who have to carry their consequences.

REVISITING THE WORK

Revisiting the project later, I began to read the installation less as a direct metaphor for conflict and more as a spatial model of how rules, actions, and invisible systems accumulate pressure.

The board is no longer only the surface on which the game takes place; it becomes the place where power becomes visible through deformation, tension, and collapse.
