IDEA BEFORE MEDIUM.

YZ Lab is the independent creative practice of Yifeng Zhang, working across spatial narrative, moving image, installation, architecture, and media-based environments.

Projects often begin with a question, observation, personal experience, or something that is not yet fully defined. An idea develops from there, and the medium comes afterward — each project finds the form it needs, whether through space, image, film, writing, or installation.

Rather than following a fixed visual language, YZ Lab works as an ongoing experiment, where different ideas, tools, and ways of making can develop into concrete work.
